Wills

What is a Will?

-
A will is a legal document that describes how you would like your property and other assets to be distributed after your death.
As Your Will's Draftsman:

-
I will help you draft a will that is clear and unambiguous and in accordance with your specific goals and preferences. The will shall be drafted in accordance with applicable Connecticut law.
What happens if I die without a Will?
-
In Connecticut, if you die without a will, your property will be distributed according to state "intestacy" laws. Connecticut's intestacy laws gives your property to your closest relatives, beginning with your spouse, children and parents. The statutory list of inheritors continues with your distant relatives, including siblings, grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, stepchildren, and so on. If the court exhausts this list and finds that you have no living relatives by blood or marriage, the state will take your property.

-
Writing a will enables the heirs and survivors of the deceased to inherit the property in the way the deceased wanted, and further eliminates uncertainty and possible litigation down the road.
Why hire an Attorney to draft my Will?

-
If you have especially complicated goals for your property distribution after your death, or if you believe that your will might be contested by certain heirs, hiring a skilled draftsman will ensure your will is clear, unambiguous and enforceable, and drafted in accordance with Connecticut law.
